30th Annual Key West SBI World Championships Day 2 & 3

Well it's now Thursday morning, and the effects of Duval Street are starting to take their toll, but I'm a sprite young lad and should make a full recovery quickly, I will keep you updated;)

Now onto racing Tuesday and Wednesday flew by with interviewing and photographing boats and team members. Wednesday was the first day of racing with three races taking place from 10AM until about 3PM. The weather was awesome, as may be expected in the Keys, sunny and warm with a steady breeze out of the Southeast. The race was great, luckily with no accidents, but quite a few boats dropping out due to mechanical problems. The race teams will have all day today to make any repairs and do any testing before the next race on Friday. I will post results and some more stories and info in my next post.

re: 30th Annual Key West SBI Offshore World Championships Day 1

The day started off dark and brisk as I was leaving work and driving to the Indianapolis Airport at 4AM Monday morning. Got to Atlanta and learned that my connecting flight to Key West had been canceled due to high winds. As luck would have it they had scheduled a flight on a smaller plane and I was able to get the last seat, Whooo. The weather in Key West was surprisingly similar to that in Central Indiana cloudy and cool, at least for Key West only 65!!! But I digress the Truman Annex is where it is always hot with about 40 boats in the pit area so far. About 40 more boats should be showing up today for the races which will be held on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. And as Day 1 in Key West ends I leave you with the famous sunset from Mallory Square.

D.C. Crenshaw and Game Time Dine

Like the popular fusion restaurants that offer unique dining opportunities from multiple genres, D.C. Crenshaw offers fine dining and sports commentary with a twist. Heading into its third season Game Time Dine offers upbeat and fun sports commentary with local celebrities and athletes at fine eating establishments throughout Chicago. I recently spoke with D.C. about Game Time Dine and other activities that he is involved with.

Q: What makes Game Time Dine such a popular show?

A: I think it shows athletes in a different light other than just on the sports field, it also introduces our viewers to unique fine dining opportunities in Chicago.

Q: Tell me a little about Game Time Dine?

A: We are now heading into our third season, and season two will air locally on NBC. It’s a great opportunity to meet with Chicago’s athletes, talk about the games, and enjoy some excellent food.

Q: Who were some of the standouts that you’ve had on the show?

A: Well I wouldn’t say that there’s just one, but I had a great time talking with Mike Ditka, Israel Idonije, Taj Gibson, Adam Burish and Shani Davis.

Q: So Television is going well for you, there are a lot of radio sports commentators; would that be something that you would be interested in?

A: I would entertain the idea of sports radio, but I have enough going on right now that it is not something that I would seek out at this time.

Q: Do you have other projects you are working on outside of sports?

A: I have several other projects outside of my show, including some charity events that I am working on.

Q: You look like you stay in shape did you play sports growing up and what do you do these days to stay in shape?

A: I played sports in high school and played football at Bowling Green University for 2 years, and then went on to play arena football afterwards. I usually get to the gym 3 times a week to lift, run, and I do the spin workouts as well.

Well there you have it, make sure to check out www.gametimedine.com or your local cable provider for show times and dates for Game Time Dine. Guys can not only get some great commentary from D.C. and Chicago’s athletes, but you’ll also find a great place to go on your next date or hang out with friends.

Popeyes and Lucas Oil Offshore Race Team Wins at the Super Boat International New York Race!

Indianapolis, IN: Driver Stan Ware and throttleman Micheal Stancombe headed up to Liberty Landing State Park and Marina on the lower Hudson River last weekend and put on one of the top shows in powerboat racing. It's unbelievable to conceive of any team in motorsports accomplishing a win, much less finishing a race on land or water, but the legendary men did it in their smashing style!!

Race morning started out with bad weather moving in. They needed to get the race off before the rain came. After testing several set ups on Saturday, and testing for hours, they picked what they would use. Saturday night consisted of changing the oil in the Lucas Oil/ Popeyes 368 skater with new 20/50 Lucas Oil racing oil, so they would be ready to hunt the big boys down. Green flag dropped and the team was off in to the lead.

Stancombe recounts " We were picking off the bigger boats lap after lap until lap 5, when, SUPRISE, the steering wheel broke off the helm. Without skipping a beat I unbuckled my harness, reached for my tool bag, and pulled out a 14 inch adjustable wrench. Handed it to Driver Stan Ware, and said, use this. As the race came to an end, and we collected our checkered flag, I looked back at the feat we pulled off. This one goes in the memory banks of stories as one of the weirdest , wildest wins ever. Who wins an offshore race without a steering wheel? Lucas Oil-Popeyes with Ware driving and me throttling! "
The crew with Popeyes Offshore Racing thanks title sponsor, Salts of the Suncoast.

I'd like to thank Ellen Greenleaf for providing me with the latest press releases from the Popeyes/Lucas Oil race wins.

 August 25, 2010

Popeyes and Lucas Oil-Peppers Offshore Race Teams Win At Thunder On The Beach!

Lucas Oil-Peppers and Popeyes Offshore Race Teams made a winning combination as they took the checkered flag in the Supercat class at the Super Boat International's first annual Cocoa Beach race, Sunday August 22.

Driver Stan Ware of Popeyes Offshore Racing and throttleman Micheal Stancombe of Lucas Oil-Peppers Offshore Racing wowed the thousands of spectators on the beach and on the water with an average lap speed of 94.80 MPH.  Ware took the turns in tight fashion with Stancombe throttling hard down the straightaways. The 36' Skater with twin 525 Mercury motors was a hit with fans in Race Village and at the Hot Pit craning in area.

Stancombe said " We had a winning combination and testing on Saturday was a dream, so we knew we were dialed in together to win the race, It was great to see our area Lucas Oil representative supporting us at the event; my father George and I appreciate everything that Lucas Oil does for the team".  He went on to say "
Popeyes/ Lucas Oil tried to take the first overall position and chase down the Instigator boat lap after lap. We tried inside and outside lines.  Stan drove a great race. And I look forward to future races with him. We could become unstoppable! ".

Ware was excited to showcase the crew's skills to the Popeyes team title sponsor, Secret of the Islands that distributed their newly launched beauty and industrial use product to the public.
